Do you struggle to activate or feel your core?
Are you shoulders often tight/hunched?
Do you ever feel tight chested?
Or do you struggle with your cardio fitness/often get out of breath?
Breathing. Something we do every day, and thankfully without thinking. But what if I said with a little training, you could happily answer no to all the above, by learning to breathe more effectively, and really transform your riding.
The Why
Learning to breathe more effectively has the ability to:
- Improve your core strength & stability
- Improve your muscular endurance –muscles ability to work effectively for longer
- Lower yours and your horses heart rate
- Reduce pain and inflammation
- Improve the connection between you and your horse
- Ultimately improve your posture, stability and position in and out the saddle
And best part it doesn’t require any equipment, and can be done anywhere, anytime.
The training is simple. It is designed to get us back to breathing how we naturally would, which due to stress and other lifestyle factors, many of us have become shallow, mouth breathers. This keeps us alive but will often inhibit our riding performance.
The Plan
Dedicate 2 mins onto your morning or evening routine. Schedule a reminder in your phone titled ‘Breathe for Performance’ and attach the following link.
Then every morning/evening when the alert goes off –the link is there ready to go and your key to transforming your riding just got a whole lot easier.
N.B. When first starting these exercises, you may find it difficult to relax your chest/shoulders, it may feel a little more like hard work. It’s hard to break old habits, but be persistent. Focus on the benefits it will bring, keep breathing into your sides, breathe deep and soon it will feel strange to breathe any other way.
